Château Laniote 2016

Appellation Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé

2016, a little gem! ! It was a long wait and it caused us many worries: the very mild and wet winter and the rain that continued all the spring which was very fresh. The bud burst was early in March, but freshness slowed the shoot. There was just a week of nice weather in early June, at the moment of the flower, Whew !! And the rain until the end of June… Then, suddenly, with the month of July, the anticyclone settles: sun, heat and practically no rain until September 13th. And then, Autumn continues with the sun, lightness, high temperatures and very little rain, just enough to ensure the physiological functioning of the vines.

All summer, the heat and the sun allowed a very good ripening process of the grapes with a grape changing of color a little late but very fast. And finally, the 31 mm of rain from September 13 was welcome to finish maturation. And there, we had to be patient to let the grapes ripen to the optimal point! At the end: very late harvests, spread out from 6 to 19 October … The Cabernets have never waited so long. But a very beautiful crop: a deep color, a degree of 14.9% vol, fat, roundness and powerful and silky tannins.

Aging in barrels, with 45% new barrels, reveals all the potential of this vintage, exceptional with aromas of black fruits, hints of spices, cocoa, a nice sweetness to the attack and a powerful and persistent lingering finish.
This wine will be fully mature in 2024 and it can be lay down for 20 or 25 years.
